IAAM hosted
the Annual Academy for Venue Safety & Security at the American Airlines
Conference Center in Fort Worth, Texas, from August 19-24. The academy is
five full days of intensive training in security planning and life safety
management for the public assembly venue industry.
The courses offered throughout the week were designed
to take students through an in-depth approach to many of the types of
emergencies that can and will occur at public assembly facilities, but also
offer the most relevant safety and security training for individuals in
venue management. The academy is designed to be very intense with training
in the most current techniques for planning, implementing, and ensuring the
safety of the patrons, staff, event and facility.
“I will use the information gained from the
enthusiastic instructors to enhance training, procedures and life safety at
the facility,” says Gladys Jones, manager of security services, Washington
Convention Center Authority. “I loved the practice exercises and meeting
with students from different venues, which enhanced my understanding of
public assembly facilities.”
This was the fourth year of the academy and there were
more than 100 total attendees.
Information on the 2008 Academy will be posted on the IAAM Web site as soon
as it is available.
